Pondless waterfalls are perfect water features for those who want to add a touch of class to their landscape, increase the value of their property with out a lot of additional work or on going maintenance.
Bill and Darlene were wanting to create a focal point new the entrance of their home that was bold and left a strong first impression, but they were at a lose on what to do. While walking through the mall one day they both commented on the beauty and uniqueness of a water fountain that did not sit in a pool of water, but instead the water just ‘disappeared’ into the floor grate at the base of the unit.
Almost in unison they looked at each other knowing this is exactly what they were looking for outside their home.
Several times before they talked about building a pond in the back yard, but the idea of ongoing maintenance was not appealing, plus it would really put some restrictions on their newly found freedom with retirement. They liked the ideas of incorporating the natural sights and sounds of a back yard waterfall, but the potential work seemed ominous as neither were looking to find a new hobby.
When they got Darlene hit the internet with Bill peering over his shoulder and before long they discovered that what they were really looking for was a pondless waterfall.
Pondless waterfalls are built similar to a waterfall that flows into a pond, however the only difference is the water 'disappears' or funnels into the base of the fall. A waterfall spill way is still created at the head of the cascade. The path of the falls is lined with a pond liner at the foundation of the spillway. The difference comes in at the base of the cascade. Instead of the water flowing into still water it splashes into the rock and gravel base and filters into the collection reservoir buried beneath the base of the falls.
The project went fairly smooth and they had it completed within the weekend. They decided to follow my recommendation and purchased a pre-packaged pondless waterfall kit. Aside from the rocks and water, the kit contained all that they needed for the project. “It was really like having the water fall in a box” was Bills Comments. All I needed to do was follow the instructions in the box on how to put it all together. Really it was unlike most of the Christmas gifts I bought for our grandkids, ‘some assemble required’. It was great.”
