First off I need to apologize for the error in the download issues there were with my free builder guide report pdf. It's all up and working, please revisit the download page and try again as I have fixed the link.
David your comments are very applicable and helpful. I will try to get a picture posted as per your recommendation.
I want to encourage you all to log / journal your progress in your blog within the site and take pictures. You can use these to inspire others, get input from people like David, but also have a valuable record of your ponds development.
I have a great audio clip that will be helpful in selecting the ideal location for your pond within your landscape. Click here for the Choosing the Ideal Location; Audio Clip with Brendon Vannest of Fire and Water.
It is important to determine if you have the skills and ability build a water feature yourself or if you should hire a contractor. Click here to Deciding if You Build Your Pond or Hire a Contractor.
I also want to encourage you to check out Graystone Creations.com for the American Pond kit. John will help set you on the right path. You can also save an additional 5% by using our unique coupon code of ALL ABOUT 5%. You can use this over the phone or online.
Please continue to post your questions in the forum and just don't be shy.

a few tips
I have been pondind for 4 years now . So not an expert, I have learned a few things the hard way. First thing is to double the size of what you think you would like and map it out in your yard with a hose or some thing to see boundries. I have not yet met anyone who felt there first pond was big enough and like me ended up making it bigger. Make a rough drawing of the area so you can allow for landscaping so you can see if what you are thinking you what is what you are going like. A pencil is easier to move than dirt and rocks. Check with other ponders is your area as to practical depths of your pond as in areas like mine 4 feet deep is key to good pond and fish health due to the winter freeze up. Keys to good pond health. What goes in must come out . Learn about the Cycle in apond . Garth when you read this if you could show a picture of this for them that would be great. Aration , a water fall not only gives off a soothing sound but arates the water ate same time. Maximaze bialogical filteration , plan an area where a lot of the circulating water flows though, you not only get great looking water plants but they remove nitrates (fertilzer created by benificial bacteria). Create areas that the water flows though that will host the Benificia Bacteria that brake down the waste products to nitrates for the plants to feed on . I have had lot of help from others, so hopfully I can return the favor .
Just getting Started
Hello Everyone, I am just getting started myself. We are desideding on a good spot and then have to clear it of bushes and dig the hole. we have the kids out looking for rocks to use over the liner after that goes down. We will try and add some pictures as we go, hoping to have the spot figured out before the weekend so we can get started on it before the ground gets hard over the winter. A friend of ours did there pond and are trying to help us with ours, even loned us there book they have with step by step pitures and all in it. Wishing the best for all of us newbies. I will pass on any info I get.
Thanks for any and all helpful hints
In the beginning
Me too, just starting, have absolutely no idea what I am getting into. Lets do it together! I have to start with clearing the area of all the vines! That will take a weekend. THen I need to listen to the videos. Have you done that yet?
