I am interested in purchasing a pond kit and would a practical comparison between the 2 modles made by American pond kits. I can see the technical spec differences and the price difference, but what would be the practical difference for a guy who wants a nice pond for my back yard city lot?

American Pond Kits have 2 Different Models ...
American pond kits come in two different styles, Freedom series and Professional series. Both are wonderful kits and have similar applications using different equipment. The Freedom series is by far the best selling due to the extremely low selling price when compared to other brands of the same items. This series was created for the do it yourself installer. All pond items that are required for the installation are included with this kit. The pump is magnetic drive and is perfect for the small and mid size ponds in the freedom series.
The professional series was designed for the professional pond installer or the advanced hobbyist. The skimmer and waterfall filter are designed with the professional in mind and are some of the sturdiest and best built products on the market. The professional kit also utilizes the sturdier but harder to work with PVC flex tubing, which unlike the simple barbed fitting on the DIY kit, must be glued into the various fittings. The pro kit also includes a much more powerful professional grade pump which will deliver more water to a higher level or further distance making them perfect for the larger professional grade kits.
If you are looking for the most economical way to get into a quality complete pond system then consider the Freedom series. If you are extremely handy and enjoy having the highest quality and sturdiest equipment possible and can afford the extra cost then the Professional series is just right for you.
